Ctrl click to unselect a file

#1 Post by m-a-r-k » 29.07.2024, 18:46

FreeCommander XE 2024 Build 911 64-bit donor

On PC and laptop both running Windows 11 and up-to-date.

Details View
Select a group of files using the SHIFT key.
Then click on a file to unselect it using the CTRL key...
I can't unless the tip of the mouse arrow is almost touching the file above, sometimes it is in the space above.

Weird...

No such behavior here.
I guess some Graphic driver glitch ?

Works as expected with Default Settings, so it's something in my settings which is duplicated on both devices.
I'll see if I can manage tomorrow to find out what it is by doing my usual binary cut method.

To be clear this is a PC and a laptop, both using different pointing devices, different GPUs etc.
This also doesn't happen in Windows File Explorer.

It's my Color Scheme colors file.
Just seeing if I can hone it down further.

Later...
It's
WinSelectModeUseWinColors=0

If I make it =1 it's OK.

Don't like that effect at all :-)

This is a recent change, something that has happened in the last version 911. Maybe 910, but I haven't had this problem long.

Hope that helps.

Have you had time to confirm this Marek?
I really dislike having this set to 1 changing how unselected files look.

Gentle reminder again. This is driving me mad. I hate using this with Windows settings. Thank you.

Workaround: what about NC-mode, select/unselect items with Insert/Space, or/and mouse shortcut, e.g. just middle click icon to select/unselect or other of many keyboard and mouse shortcuts?

I won't use NCC mode.
Middle click only has a Select option. When selected it does not unselect an item, at least here with my hardware.
It's the unselecting of an item that is at issue here.
To reiterate, this has only been happening in the last few updates. For years it never did this.

All color schemes provided by FreeCommander use WinSelectModeUseWinColors=0.
Could you try some provided by FC color scheme?

Could you send me your freecommander.ini and your used color scheme (*.colors file).

Thanks Marek. I can confirm the FC colour schemes work - that is I can unselect files in display list mode.
I'll send you my files by email now.

I checked your settings and your problem is the same color for "Selected item active list" and "Focused item active list".
With unselect Ctrl+Click you can not see if the item is unselected - in the status bar changes the count of selected.

Activate the option "Only border" for "Focused item active list" and you can see that it works OK.

I see in your color definition some other problems but I do not know if it was your intention.
Compare maybe the color definition in e.g. Dark_Grey_Flat_Default then you can see the differences.

Ok I've tried your suggestion and I can see my mistake. Thank you Marek for your quick response to this, I really appreciate it.

In my defence  I do find the whole implementation of the color schemes very esoteric and difficult to navigate. There are many tabs in the Settings dialog that pertain to colours.
A unified color schemes editor would be very welcome especially as editing the color file is a nightmare to decipher the hundreds of settings. Using RGB integer values rather than the RGB sextet or hex values also doesn't help.

I think (I'd be glad to be wrong) that the color scheme isn't saved unless I specifically go into the View menu and save it. I've wasted much time when I've forgotten to do this. Could the color scheme be automatically saved in exit just like normal settings?

Thank you as always

Color scheme is not saved on FC exit, but the changed colors are saved on FC exit - so if you not changed the color scheme, different colors should be preserved - and you can save the color scheme even after FC exit / restart, to the existing or new color scheme.
