column profile and tree width dependend on windows width

#1 Post by pepo » 23.09.2024, 09:16

Hi Marek

I would like to ask for feature to set column profile and tree width dependend on windows size.

Background...

If I work on my big monitor, the resolution is 1920*1080 and I have set the column widths just perfect for my needs. I also have saved this as column profile as office.pepo.2024.
But when I disconnect from monitor the laptop changes the resolution and I have to set the the column widths and tree width once again. I also have saved this column profile as laptop.pepo.2024.

Could be this automated? That I do not have always click to choose profile to set proper column widths?

Could be this connected/combinned also with tree width? As this tree size looks always to be set to just any width after switching back and fort from laptop to monitor.

Thank you in advance

Kind regards

Pepo

What resolution is on the laptop?
After disconnect from monitor - have you tried to restart FC?

Hi Marek,

Thank you for your reply!

Resolution...
Good point. It is not only about resolution.
It depends also on "scale and layout settings", which at laptop is on 125%.
But on big monitor is 100%.
Sometimes I am also connected to beamer, which has some wider resolution than fullHD but once again different "scale and layout" ratio.

Restart...
Of course I tried to restart freecommander, but it does not help everytime, mostly it helps, BUT not always. I do not like such half-solution.
Sometimes on big monitor the columns widths and tree size somehow stay smaller as it would expect the small laptop resolution from last time when I was working on laptop.
And, some other times, it makes even bigger column widths and tree size than needed, so I get even a horizontal scrollbar, because all the column widths together are wider than the half pane of freecommander.
If I get this situation once again, I will make screenshot too.
But I think this problem comes from the tree size width, which is always somehow readjusted and I can not control it properly in settings.

Maybe there is some possibility to add additional settings at column profiles, beside the allign settings, to define some minimum widths and let max open - so it can addapt automaticaly based on window/half pane width.
And so the same settings needs to be also there for tree size.

Thank you in advance
Kind regards
Pepo

I think, using of the Layouts could help you.
You can simply save the layout for "Office" and "Laptop" and then with hotkey switch to desired layout.

this I already do, but the bad thing is, that there I have also tree view for both panes, which is behaving always "somehow". Swithing the profile does not help fully.
The tree size is always changing to something ... and I can not cotrnol it.

EDIT:
Sorry I was not precize enough, I was using column profiles up to now. Layouts I will try, hopefully it works better with treesize.

Will give feedback here.

Hi Marek,

now I have had chance to switch to laptop and back to bigger monitor.
Of course the columns and tree were "somehow". So, I tried to apply the layout which I have saved 2 days back.
But no luck.
The tree size is out of control, it is bigger than last time and so not all of the columns are visible, the date columns is half visible only so I have to scroll on horizontal scrollbar to see it.

Could you please solve it for the tree size to be controlled in some automated way? Mabye as autosize to remaining width beside the main pane on laft side, and the same to do also on the right side.

Thank you in advance

Kind regards

Which program version are you using?

I see currently no problems with the size tree.
Maybe some combination of the settings plays a role.
If you like, send me your settings and I check it.
