New term for "Flat View" needed
New term for "Flat View" needed
Hi,
the term "Flat View" is trademarked by GPSoftware and I must use an other term.
My proposals:
Plain view
Structureless view
What do you mean?

Re: New term for "Flat View" needed
What about "deep view"? I think this is quite intuitive, because the main principle of "flat viewing" is looking in inferior = deeper folders.
Perhaps even better than copying the old word with the same meaning but only another translation....
"Structureless view" is also a good explanation but too long in my opinion.
By the way belongs the trademark problem also to the german translation "Flache Ansicht?"

+1 Plain view
By the way, has anyone put a trademark on "toilet seat" yet? I don't know guys, one could make good money out of it!
Another reason not to use DO!

Re: New term for "Flat View" needed
This is sick. What if someone put a trademark on "thumbnails view", or "details view"?!
I'd call it "FC Flat View".
Don't know what is the best, native English speakers should decide, but the best and exact word is "flat", then perhaps "branch", used in TC, so unusable?!
What about "Flat structure"? It should be free and we would not have to change the translations - or the translations are trademarked too? Another plus is that FC users know the word "Flat", so it wouldn't be anything new to them. Perhaps it's a bit long, but the translations of old term might be even longer, so it's not such a big problem IMO.
Moreover - "Flat structure" is better than "Flat view" because the "view" is used for the form of the file list and it's not changed if the flat view is enabled, only the structure of the files is different.
Another option is "Flat layout", but layout is used for another feature and is not so accurate.

Like Uwe I find structureless view a little to long, although it is a good explanation of the view.
For me "plain view" sounds best.

In what country is the trademark located?
What is the serial number or reg number of the alleged trademark?
Here are the results when performing a USA trademark search for "Flat View":
INAL, but none of those trademarks appear to be valid.

Folderless view.
It's self explanatory.

When I first read your suggestion, I loved it.Anti-Distinctlyminty wrote:Folderless view.

Then I got to thinking, it kind of sounds like "show all files but not the folders".
Re: New term for "Flat View" needed
+1 , but I don't know if it should be changed again.Folderless view.
