Shortcut & icon for "open folder in other panel"-action

#1 Post by FreeUser » 11.03.2021, 20:18

FreeCommander is such a great tool, and if it was only for the second window pane which is still missing in the native Windows File Explorer. All the more astonishing it is that FreeCommander doesn't make 100% use of this killer-feature by not assigning (or allowing the user to assign himself) a keyboard shortcut for the great, great "open folder in other panel"-action. It can only be used by navigating to a teeny-tiny icon in the action toolbar (if the user added it before) or to a missing (!) icon in the splitter (?) bar in the middle (again, if the user added it before).

So please just include a (customizable) keyboard shortcut and an icon for the highly useful "open folder in other panel"-action in the next update.

Many thanks in advance!

You don't have to wait for the next update.
You can define/change shortcuts almost for each action. Here is the example how to make it: http://freecommander.com/en/faq-keyboar ... d-shortcut
Simply write open in the quick filter field and you can see "Open folder in other panel" action.

Ok, so it's there, it's just hidden in even within the Define keyboard shortcuts submenu, without explicitly filtering for it it doesn't show. Thanks to your linked guide I found it and it works, great, thanks!

However, may I still encourage you to make "open folder in other panel"-action visible by default in the Define keyboard shortcuts submenu, because I think it's one of FreeCommander's strong suits and it's a pity that most users probably overlook its full (shortcut) power.

And maybe also add an icon for this action for the splitter (?) pane (in the middle between the two window panes), because currently it's just an empty space if you add the "open folder in other panel"-action there.

But all in all, huge compliments for making such great software! :-)

The action is not hidden, they are listed in sections.
"open folder in other panel" is listed in the "folder"-section, equal to the folder menu.
But with search for ... all entries are found very quick.

For the button you can define an icon by yourself by clicking on the ".." in the "Details-column.
